History

Legendary Women Inc. (LW, Inc.) began as a simple campaign to raise money for the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation to pay homage to the actress Allison Mack and her character Chloe Sullivan from Smallville. The project, “Operation Truth and Justice,” was a way for fans to honor her character in what could have been her final season as a regular on the show. As part of OTJ Legendary Executive producer Liz De Razzo suggested creating a commercial to celebrate Mack and her character, thus constructing the first true project of LW, Inc.

During the process of creating and later completing the Legendary Commercial, co-creators De Razzo and Margaret Bates realized they didn’t need to limit themselves to just one actress or one character. They wanted to use their experience in fandom to create a site to promote a variety of positive media portrayals of women as well as to encourage other women via this site to generate their own positive media.

So from one fan campaign came the unique and ambitious idea to create a long lasting entity that could continuously highlight heroines, both in fiction and real life, as well as support women-based charities that merit promotion and recognition.
